Eight agricultural series from FAO and the World Bank: cereal, rice and wheat production, cereal yield, coffee and cocoa bean production, milk production, and the farmland share of land area.

Reading production and yield side by side reveals the structure of this field. The yield leaders are desert countries such as Oman and the UAE, where the area planted is so small that output per hectare comes out extreme — a completely different cast from the production leaders. Placing the two indicators together makes the distinction concrete: growing a lot and growing efficiently are not the same thing.
