Ten rankings on food, all from FAO production statistics: cereals, rice, wheat, coffee beans, cocoa beans, milk, capture fisheries, meat supply per person, cereal yield and the farmland share of land.

One thread runs through them. A production ranking shows where a crop is grown, not who supplies the world — the countries with a surplus to export are frequently not the largest producers. China grew wheat output almost tenfold since 1961, but nearly all of it is consumed domestically, and its presence in export markets is far smaller than its production rank suggests.
