Three rankings on trade: container port traffic, high-technology exports and trade as a share of GDP.

Trade as a share of GDP measures openness rather than size. The leaders are entrepôt hubs such as Hong Kong, Luxembourg and Singapore, which re-export much of what they import and so post trade values far above their domestic output. Large economies with big internal markets — the United States, Japan, China — post low ratios and do not appear in the top 30 at all.
