Two sides of food in one place: household spending by Japanese city from the Family Income and Expenditure Survey (coffee, green tea, miso, natto, sake and more), and FAO production statistics by country (rice, wheat, cereals, coffee beans, cocoa beans, milk).

What makes the pairing interesting is that the two follow completely unrelated logic. The world map of coffee production is a story about Brazil and Vietnam; the map of coffee spending inside Japan is decided by something else entirely. Note too that a production ranking shows where a crop is grown, not who supplies the world — the exporting countries are often not the largest producers.
