Geography

Statistics about how land and people are arranged: population density, total population, the urban share of population, and the shares of land given over to farmland and forest. Both Japanese prefectures and world countries are covered.

Indicators with area in the denominator share a quirk. Population density divides by a prefecture's entire territory, so mountainous prefectures read lower than they feel. The farmland share counts extensive rangeland as agricultural land, so a high share is not a high yield. Check what is in the denominator before reading the ranking.
