Indicators of technological capacity — patent applications, R&D spending, high-technology exports — alongside indicators of adoption: internet use, fixed broadband and mobile subscriptions. All cover the top 30 countries.
Be aware that the adoption indicators are close to their ceiling. All 27 countries with a 2024 value for internet use are above 95%, and the spread between top and bottom is just 4.75 percentage points. Once an indicator tops out, its ranking carries almost no information; the level itself, and the year each country's line lifted off, are more rewarding to follow.
